USED CAR! i assume you are only 16 (unless you waited for some reason to get a licence...) even if you have the money to get a new car, it wont be worth it. you wont appreciate the privelege of driving until you've driven something a little beat up. you can get very nice used cars, but i recommend getting a Honda in yor price range so yuo can drive it for a long time until you start to make some real money.

my sister totalled 3 cars in her first year and a half of driving, so get your skills down and get comfortable for a few years, then move on to something really nice.

oh yeah, and learn how to drive a stick, its way more fun.

Insurance cost is important consideration while purchasing a car. If you can afford to pay cash, you may increase collision and comprehensive deductable to $1000 (or $2500) or not purchase coverage at all. Leased or financed cars require collision and comprehensive coverage with maximum $500 deductable. This will be a major saving if you are an unexperienced driver.

Try quoting your insurance premium on progressive.com or geico.com you will see a difference.

While considering used vehicle, check with Consumer Reports magazine to see their list of recommended vehicles.
