Ok so I'm 18 and I thought in Ga that once you turn 18 you can just go to the DMV and get a full class C license, so I went and they made me get a learner's permit and told me to complete 40 hours of driving. I am wondering if I need to have a parent in the car with me(or someone 21 and up) because i rather drive alone. I've been looking forever and its annoying. so long story short, do i need a parent in the car with me when i only have a permit? thanks :)

You can't drive alone, you don't have a license yet.

•If you are obtaining your first driver’s license, and you are 18 years of age or older, driver’s education is not required.

•Applicant must be at least 18.

•The applicant must pass a vision exam.

No, you don't need to drive with a parent, just someone 21 or older with a license.

You could have picked up the booklet with all the answers to your questions while you were at the DMV. Age beyond the minimum doesn't matter when you want a license- first you need a learner's permit. Read the driving summary. Go back to the DMV office and pick one up. After you study that little book so you know how to obey traffic laws. You cannot pass the written test unless you know all that. A license is not a birthday present. You have to prove you can drive safely in traffic. The time you must hold the permit before you can test for a license is best spent practicing driving in traffic while getting expert at obeying traffic laws. If you break any law during the driving test, that will instantly fail you. Since you didn't mention taking a written test, I believe you do not yet have a driving permit.

Let's start over and do this the right way. Apply for a driving permit by paying the fee and passing the written test. Then practice 40 hours or however long it takes beyond that to really become a good and safe driver. Be sure you have a licensed driver accompany you while you practice. Pick someone who is a good driver, is patient and can actually coach you as you learn to drive. When you're ready, take the driving test at the DMV. When you pass that you'll get your license. Come back and tell us how you did or ask for more advice if you need it.
