Question:
Tips for California Behind-the-Wheel driver test?

I am taking my behind-the-wheel driver test tomorrow, bright and early (8 AM). Both my parents say that I am an excellent driver, and my friends laugh at me saying that I am over prepared. I know my hand signals, and all of the car equipment ( Emergency brake, flashers, etc). I even wrote out the score sheet and made many copies so I can be evaluated by my parents when I drive. But, I am still very nervous. I know the normal tips such as always scan, keep speed limit, be cautious, etc. But do you have any other tips on how to pass?

Also, I was wondering... If you are driving and need to make a right turn, (obviously resulting in you getting in to the bike lane) What do you do if there is a bicyclist approaching? I know to wait until he or she passed because they always have the right of way, but what if I am holding up traffic? What do I do?

Thank you in advance, your help is greatly appreciated :)

Relax, stress is the enemy. Stress will make you fail. Take your time and don't worry about other drivers they are not worried about you. If you studied and I am sure you have and practiced I am sure you have the test is only that just a test. Worst case scenario you fail it. No big deal you can retake it. Don't let the situation drive you crazy, just do your best that's all you can do.

As you exit the parking lot at the DMV come to a full stop before you cross the sidewalk. look carefully for pedestrians then cross the sidewalk slowly and watching for traffic. Stop again if you have to in order to watch for cross traffic.

So many kids flunk their test from missing this one stupid little thing.

As for holding up traffic in order to let a cyclist, pedestrian or anything with the right of way pass then you are holding up traffic. Tough for the traffic. Safety ALWAYS comes first. Even if a cyclist or pedestrian or even another car insists on going even if they do not have the right of way, you let them go. Better to let someone bully their way through than there to be an collision.

Check you tube the CA dmv did a series of videos on the top 10 things people fail on. Also google "california drivers performance evaluation" in images to get a look at the sheet they will use to evaluate you. they have the automatic fails listed on there.

On the Bike lane: Yea you hold up traffic. A bike is nothing but a slow moving vehicle you have to treat them in the same way. So if a slow moving car held you up from getting in the lane so be it. Traffic gets held up.
