Well my mom woke me up this morning yelling because I had apparently left the car running when I put it in the garage last night. I most likely won't get any peace for a while because of it. As if all this wasn't enough, my mom is now afraid to start the car up to go to work because she's afraid it will "blow up". To be honest I doubt that this will happen and I honestly think she's overreacting. Of course, I may be wrong. Does anyone out there who's been in a similar situation or anyone who knows a lot about cars have an answer? Are my mother's claims of the car exploding justifiable or is she just freaking out?

Thanks

That has got to be one of the most outrageous things I've heard about cars in my life! The worst thing that happened was you probably burned through most of a tank of gas. If your garage is part of your house then the exhaust fumes may have gotten into the house and raised the carbon monoxide levels but no way would your car "explode"!!! That's really funny!!!

Sorry, but never heard of anybody actually leaving a vehicle running all night. The garage is an enclosed space and the fumes must have been terrible. Aside from the "blowing up" part (ridiculous) , your mom is justified in her reaction. To be honest, it's unbelievable.

You need to check the oil and water and, of course, the gas, before it is driven again

Aside from wasting some fuel, and putting a lot of carbon monoxide in the garage, no harm was done. Open the garage door and let things air out for a bit.

Hi,

No damage will have occured to the car if you simply left it running overnight. The only damage would be to your wallet, as it would have drank a fair amount of petrol.

It wouldn't blow up, the car has a thermostat and cooling raditor/fan which come on to maintain the engines ideal operating temperature.

It won't blow up but you didn't do the engine any good letting it idle that long. I have to agree with the other person, that was the dumbest thing I have ever heard of a person doing. If I was your mom I'd also be pissed.

I don't know if it will explode but if you left it running all night, why does she now need to start it? Just jump in and go...
