I have noticed some resistance when changing down gears in my VW Lupo. The gears change easily when the engine is not running and it is easy to change up gears when driving. What could be wrong?

If this is Stick shift ,for test of the clutch .Turn on the car ,without changing shift .Push your feet on the clutch pedal see where is getting hard ,if going low than normal mean your clutch need the readjustment or Replacement .

Now if every thing it's normal during driving from low speed to high speed and shift is without Noise and easy .You have problem to get to low gear for example from 3 to2 in during slow down ,you should exercise more to learn and feel sound of the engine or RPM .To get to lower gear RPM should come above the 2.3 and this will cause rotation of the engine be same as transmission to go lower speed .In stick shift cars changing the gear is necessarily when RPM is coming to 2.9 till 3 for going higher speed ,but for slow down you should slow car by break till sound of the engine tell you to go lower gear and going low gear should be step by step like from 4 to3 again make the break and go 3 to 2 again make the break and go from 2 to 1 till stop or again speed up .

Dont panic, i'm advantageous UR GEARBOX is effective, examine THE LINKAGE FROM THE LEVER TO GEARBOX, its achieveable that the equipment rod or rods have popped out of their timber, its an ordinary restoration.

It takes practice. Try changing them with the car stationary to get the hand to adjust

Push the clutch in. Or buy a new wrist.

if ur clutch is pressed in fully then it could be the gearbox or clutch on its way out
