They are similar. Go to http://www.testquestionsandanswers.com/p… and there is a free 5 question sample test.
Some parts of the manual are more difficult to memorize than others. Since you are comfortable on the internet, you would probably benefit greatly from an online review course. You can register for one at http://www.testquestionsandanswers.com/p… course is designed to "over-prepare" you for the exam by testing you on a wide range of subject material repeatedly. You'll be able to determine your strengths and weaknesses on the material after taking the practice course just a few times. After passing the course five times, you are GUARANTEED to pass your exam at the driver's license office.

Drivers ed teaches you to drive. Dmv gives you the computer test. Dmv doesn't do driving tests for permits. you have to do drivers ed. Getting your license you have to do a written test& a driving test.

Yes, it's pretty much like that and a lot of those questions in there are on the actual test, but slightly different, but anyways, I wold recommend you to go through the booklet at least once.
