I got an El Camino as a gift (I'm 15) and I noticed it was a car-truck, so how much of a truck can be used of it? I know it ISN'T a truck but I'm wondering what it can do.
What I'm asking for really is the bed capacity and towing.

El camino are cool its a half ton pick up more or less it can haul anything you put in it. If you look around can find you these chrome tie downs or a combination of bed rail chrome tie down that you can tie off oversize loads so they stay inside the vehicle. Towing is good like a regular pick up you can put a square tube receiver hitch on like any other pick up personally I always put monroe load adjuster shock and springs on the rear and for the front I was actually on the monroe home page and looked up a part number for the best shock set up that el camino will ever have it will ride like a cadillac when you are towing anything, and I mean nice and smooth like you would not believe I put it on every truck I owned for the last 40 years no company out there can beat the shock or the price or the fact that it will be on the truck when you sell it that's how good they are the front sensa trac overload spring is monroe part # 58270 and the rear is monroe # 58411 they are about 60 bucks a piece but well worth the money and it will handle like a dream on corners without that wallowing station wagon feel. and here is a tip if you want that el camino to handle around a corner like a sports car go find a sway bar that will fit on the front this will give it more of the truck feel too it will ride smooth and handle better the more weight you put in it. Im hoping the 5.7 v8 is in your el camino the v6 and the 5.0 are not as good for towing heavier loads. Any how a free car is absolutely the best kind have fun

The El Camino mattress is set 4 feet extensive by six feet lengthy, however the suspension is 78 Chevy passenger auto. Definately a light responsibility truck. I concur with the prior reply. Make it appear excellent, and omit about trying to make a truck out of it. This car/truck can use any small block or perhaps a giant block Chevy motor. Too vast of a resolution to record here.

Its still a car chassis, bit heavier springs in the rear but not much, your OK with a couch or dirt bike but a load of gravel or bricks is not a good idea, as to towing a small boat or travel trailer is fine, but a fifth wheel horse trailer would be a really bad idea, just comes down to common sense, its a car with a truck bed, Get it?

It is a Monte Carlo with a different body - still a car chassis.
