The cheapest kit car I know of is the "Track-T" (http://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-1927-Track-T-Roadster-Kit,4010.html). There maybe a shop closer to you that can provide you something similar.

Another inexpensive way to go is with a home built. These are Lotus 7 (Caterham) look a likes. On the web they are known as Locost and Track Day cars. But you need a place to buy the materials and a place to get used car parts. The idea is spelled out in two different books, the newest one being "Build Your Own Sports Car". Welding skills are mandatory along with a welder.

But the book is not mandatory much of the information needed (even some not in the book) can be found at build sites (where some one has or is building one) or in on line forums like this one: http://www.locostusa.com/forums/

The link below has a couple of cool possibilities.

The Belaro is built from a 1993 - 2002 Chevrolet Camaro. The kit is about $5600. When finished looks like a modern 57 Chevy Belair. Could use an older 6 cylinder Camaro for the donor car if you wanted to save some money.

The other kit this company sells is 52 Ford. This kit costs about $3600. You use a 1989 - 1997 Ford Thunderbird or Mercury Cougar. The donor car could be relatively inexpensive. Like the Belaro, the end result would be very cool.

Depending on the actual donor car you would have something that looks very 50's cool. But you could also have a modern engine with electronic fuel injection that starts and runs nice. The car could have other modern features like anti lock brakes, air bags, a modern stereo, power steering, power brakes, etc. The car would ride and drive nice. The best of both worlds.

The kit is relatively easy to install to the donor car. Would be a nice kit for a first project.

You can give a order to build a kit car from your design plans or plans from the book "build your own sports car on a budget". It will be much faster. Better, if it will be your own design. You can sell it to cover up or get back the money.

I always thought of building kit cars and selling them. If it does not take to long; after the design part, it would be possible to sell it, as in a business. Let's say the build takes around a week or two, it could be possible! LOW VOLUME PRODUCTION!!!

driving a pretend Ferrari is much greater ghetto than donning pretend Jordans. There are some incredible kits accessible that use Mustang engines and working kit to make Shelby Cobras, yet those will fee greater suitable than $12k alongside with the donor motor vehicle... i might seem on line for a number of those.

Why is it that all the 12 year old children can find Yahoo! Answers, but they can't seem to find Google or Bing?
