hmm, passed in 2001, took me ages to get round to doing the whole driving lark, so in no particular order -

2001 Vauxhall Astra 1.8 CD - Love it ( still have it)

1998 Ford mondeo 1.8LX - Heap of Rubbish but handy big car

1996 Vauxhall Vectra 2.0 - Rubbish

1996 Ford Escort 1.6 LX - Nothing special

1994 Rover 100 - Death trap on wheels

1994 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 - slow but very reliable

1998 Volvo s40 T4 - Very nice shame about the repair bills

1989 Ford Sierra - everyone needs a car to dismantle dont they ?

2000 fiat punto - junk

2004 Nissan micra - horrible girly car

2005 ford ka - Horrible shed like car

In my opinion the older cars or more fun, you dont lose any money to depreciation and you dont worry about where youve parked it and whos going to scratch your paint.

Best thing I can tell you is trying driving a small distance at 1st. Drive up to the local store, post office, or somewhere that isn't real far. Do that a few times, then when your ok with that, pick a place that is alittle further, and keep doing that until you build up your confidence. If you are comfortable with someone else in the car with you, then you might take someone that can drive along, just in case you get that feeling of "i can't do this"... That way they can take over and get you safely back home, but if that does happen don't give up, try again and again... Eventually you will build up some confidence, even if it just for small (short) trips.

Passed my driver's test in 1985.

I have owned:

1. Ford Granada - super easy to work on the engine, learned about cars with it.

2. Oldsmobile Cutless Ciera -- super car, V-6, lots of truck driver's tooted their horn when they saw me on the highway in that car! It wore out from old age and I finally sold it, it was like a wonderful friend.

3. Oldsmobile Cutless - bought from Dad and it was not in good shape to start with, ended up having an electrical problem that couldn't be fixed so I traded it in for the car I have now.

4. Buick Regal - nice car but made a mistake buying it, the inside smelled and the chemical smell made me terribly ill so sold it for a loss.

5. Now I own a Chevrolet Impala (2005) -- 6 cylinder, very nice, roomy inside, classy-looking inside, great trunk space.

3. VW Polo 1.4 CL - merely average, poor handling, soggy suspension.

4. Ford Ka 1.3 - fantastic handling, poor engine.

5. Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin 2.0 GDI - Superb, quick but high running cost.

6. Toyota Yaris 1.4D - very practical and economical. D-4D engine was great.
