I love the Mclaren MP4-12C Spyder.
It is my favorite car.
it has a carbon fiber monocell chassis which is incredibly strong and lightweight. it's so strong that by making it a convertible (not having a roof as a structural part of the car) it loses no rigidity from the coupe version meaning you get the same acceleration and similar top speed (equal when the roof is up because of aerodynamics)
the engine is an incredibly efficient 3.8L twin turbo V8 that makes 616 horsepower. compare this to the Ferrari 458 Italia's engine which is 4.5L and makes 562 horsepower. this means that the Mclaren will have an engine that weighs less, takes up less room consumes less fuel when driven economically and still produces more power. the Ferrari also gains a lot more weight when converted to a convertible than the Mclaren. the gearbox is a 7 speed lightning fast dual clutch automated manual. it uses an active suspension (technology that was banned from Formula 1) to give a ride that's closer to a Rolls Royce Phantom than a Nissan GT-R when in comfort mode but still extremely sporty in track mode. (ride quality is measured by the average G's of vertical acceleration when driving over bumps, more G's means a stiffer ride, less G's means that the suspension is softer and absorbing the bumps)
every little detail of the car is great and thought out in an amazing manner.
for example the exhausts in a regular car (and most super cars) is near the bottom of the car close to the ground. on the Mclaren it's much higher because it takes up less space for the diffuser and uses less metal to just go straight back than down then back saving weight.
the adjustable wing on it flips up under hard braking but the motors on it alone can't flip the wing all the way up. instead, they used a different hinge system that uses the force of the air hitting it to fully raise the wing to its maximum angle. this means they can use smaller electric motors that weight less.
at the front, beneath the front bumper/splitter there are tiny slivers of material that help smooth out the air beneath the car making the diffuser more efficient and effective. the driving position is made to provide maximum focus towards driving, rather than filling the steering wheel with buttons that could be distracting like Ferrari does, mclaren made a very basic wheel based on the measurements from their formula 1 drivers. while mclaren specify that the car accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds (.1 of a second faster than the Ferrari 458) people have reported the car doing 0-60 in less than 3 seconds without any modifications. (this is the only lying about specifications that is acceptable, when the actual results are better than what is told, not the other way around) the car has been recorded accelerating faster than a Nissan GT-R which is among the best accelerating cars in the world. add in the better comfort, fuel economy, emissions (because the environment still matters even for rich people), convertible roof and lower weight, the mclaren really is one of the best cars ever made.
now seeing as it competes primarily with the Ferrari 458 and is lighter, faster, more comfortable, efficient, environmentally friendly, and easier to drive, you'd expect it to be somewhat more expensive but no. the mclaren is actually cheaper. add in that it hasn't had the reliability issues that the Ferrari has had (randomly setting itself on fire and bumpers falling off when driving over dusty/gravelly roads) and the car is really amazing.
if not the MP4-12C Spyder then the Tesla Model S would be my next favorite.
it's amazing in a different sense. it's large and roomy. with seating for 5+2 people (5 adults, 2 children) it's basically a minivan.
it has a HUGE trunk at the back and a small trunk at the front (called a frunk) where the engine in a regular car would be for extra storage.
it's luxurious and highly advanced. it has a large 17" touchscreen to place controls right at your fingertips as well as providing the best navigation screen ever (a huge google maps screen). the car is incredibly efficient. with one of the lowest ever coefficients of drag, it uses less energy to move than other cars. now since it's electric, this efficiency is also completely clean efficiency. it's great for the environment. even if you live in a place where 100% of your electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels (which not many places outside of the third world are) the car is still better for the environment than gas burning cars (including hybrids and extended range electrics). the tesla is also very fast. it's powerful electric motors can push it from 0 to 60 mph in around 4.2 seconds (some people report it going as fast as 4.0 seconds). This is Audi R8 V8 or Porsche 911 turbo speed.
it's also incredibly safe. since the whole chassis around the cabin is only there for the interior of the car (the batteries and motors are all along the floor). the chassis can be made extremely strong and safe. it got the highest overall safety rating of any car ever tested by the NHTSA. it's so strong that it beat much larger and heavier cars, minivans and SUVs. during the roof drop test, the Tesla's chassis broke the testing machine. overall it's still fairly economy considering what you get. in luxury and performance it competes with the BMW M5 (the sports version of the 5 series) and costs around $110,000 fully loaded (compared to the M5's starting price of $100.000). for that you get a car that is larger, safer, faster, much more economical to run, and much better for the environment much lower maintenance (other than replacing brakes, wheels and windshield washer fluid, the Tesla has no real extensive maintenance compared to other cars) and when equipped with similar options, the tesla actually ends up being cheaper.
now many people don't like teslas because they are electric and are afraid of the range but the 285 mile range is statistically proven to be more than enough for 95% of american. add in that Tesla is setting up supercharging stations that can recharge a tesla in 30 minutes (shorter than the average rest stop on road trips) and the tesla is becoming an amazing car. now for some people this supercharging which is and always will be completely free, isn't enough. for those people Tesla is also adding battery swap stations that will swap a discharged battery with a charged one in 90 seconds (faster than fueling up a regular car) for $60 (cheaper than fueling up a regular car)
right now, Tesla has said that they are aiming to have a supercharger station within range of every person in the continental US, within range of 98% of canadian people and covering all of western europe up till poland and they are currently ahead of schedule. and as for the people that whine that Tesla used government bailout money to get started, it wasn't a bailout, it was a loan which has already been paid back with extra interest meaning that the taxpayers actually made money with Tesla's loan.
I understand that a tesla won't be much good for some people especially if they live in the country or need a pickup truck but for most of us that live in cities, the Tesla model S is the best car in the world.
there are more luxurious cars, faster cars, and larger cars but none of them can do as well as the tesla does in all of the fields in which it excels.
I do a lot of reading on cars and will accept that some cars are better than other even if I don't like them but right now the facts point at the Tesla being the best car on earth.
