so im 15 turning 16 soon and I want to get a nice first car BUT I was thinking of getting a roller chassis and building up from there( I found a 1972 Buick skylark for $400!!!) one problem..... my parents think its a terrible idea (I don't work and I don't have a work permit or any way to get to a job) now my grandpa has a old s10 he wants me to drive but it has no power for a 4cyl and gets 15 mpg. I was thinking of I got the buick and went to a junkyard for the parts (engine-tranny-ect) I could have a much more reliable car...... ( im a gear head and love cars just like all the men in my family and we do have room to work on the car in our garage or shed but what do you think would be better?? I feel if I built this car from the ground up I could get to know it better and have a better experience because im planning on starting my own repair shop someday, but I have no idea so I wanted to see what enyone thinks about this

I would say to first get a job unless you have some major support (money) coming from someone or somewhere. The pros of building your own car is that you'll know everything about it and have a lot of experience. 1972 skylark doesn't seem promising as older cars are money pits, falling apart. I would find a cheap 03-06 anything really and slowly work my way with mods and parts until I'm stratified. Do what you like n hope for the best if you choose to work on the skylark.

Your idea is interesting, but you can't put such a car on the highway. It won't be approved and you can't get a title for it, which means you can't register it and can't get insurance on it, which means you can't drive it.
