I am starting a new job soon, i will be doing anywhere between 50-100 drops per day, i was wondering if there is a sat nav or similar that, i can enter all the drops in and it will route them for me.

I have 3 different types of sat nav.

Via Michelin, Tom Tom and Navman - they all do that.

To get through that many drops - most I ever did was 62 plus 4 collections in an area I knew, you will have to have some local knowledge. By the time you have entered all of them in you will have lost any advantage that the Sat Nav gives. To put 50 in would take around an hour. You may find that there is a limit to how many drops you can put in at once.

What the Sat Nav will not do is give the best route and more importantly drop order. You will have to sort the drop order out yourself and usually you do that while you load the van to make sure you can easily get to the things you need in the right order. To sort out a good drop order and so the best route you will have to use a map sometimes anyway.

Sounds like you have just secured a job for the run up to Xmas for one of the parcel carriers. Been there, done that, will never do it again. I love driving but that is the worse job I ever did.

If everything goes well it is still a pig of a job. Just one duff address can ruin the whole day - and you get some that sat navs or maps are little help for.

Good Luck - you will need it.

I worked as a mini-cab driver. By far the best Satnav was the TomTom Go- I had the 530. You can enter multiple destinations, though I don't know how many as I never got the hang of it. But there is also a full postcode entry, so you can do one drop, then bang in the next postcode. All satnavs are not 100percent however and I had a proper selection of maps as a back up, and you also have to be aware that you can set your satnav for quickest or shortest and this varies at different times of the day. I never 100 percent relied on satnav, but when it was useful it was a lifesaver. After you get to know the core roads so you can make basic decisons, I use the satnav for that last bit of the journey that just relates to that particular address.

Most Sat Navs are abe to do this. I know TomTom definitely does. However, the unit will not tell you the most efficient and adjust the sequence of stops accordingly. All it will tell you is the most efficient route from one stop to the next.Try this site for a selection of Sat Navs:

Navman S30 allows multi stop trips. I use that function quite often. This is only the basic model but I find it really easy to use.
