Question:
Selling an old car...?

Some of you may have seen my earlier Q about buying a new car... now I am wondering what to do with my old one.

I am very attached to Fred (my car... obviously I'm attached if I gave him a name) but it is just time for us to part ways. I DO NOT want to send him to the junkyard.

Fred is a '95 Crown Victoria:
- dual airbags
- automatic
- V8
- antilock brakes
- brand new Sirius-ready CD player

and:
- big bald spots
- stains & rips in the seats & carpet
- power windows that only work %50 of the time
- needs more frequent check-ups, oil changes and such

I'm thinking he was great as my first car- big and safe but also powerful- and I'm gonna try to sell him to some high school kid.

How much do you think I should charge? I don't really need the money but I don't want to just give him away either, 'cause I paid full price for him and like I said, I'm attached.

So... what do you recommend I do with Fred?

There is and always have been someone that gets or got excited about their first car. Mine was ugly as sin, but I had the teenage dream of making it the vision in my head. Put an add in your local news paper and there will be some youngster out there that will see the dream. After 26 years I ran into my first car, a 1970 Chevy Nova 4 cylinder, 3 speed on the column. This car has been argued as a car that does and never had existed. However, it does. I rebuilt the engine myself. The car is as ugly as the day I got rid of it.The owner will not part with it. Smart man. My point,,,,with time, you'll find someone to fit that car into their dreams. Ask $1000 and take what you'll get from the one you most think will help Fred.

If you really don't need the money, Why not sell the car for $1.00 to a needy student in some field that you have a passion for, Medical arts,Crafts, Or just about anything that you like. I've done this twice in my lifetime and the personal rewards are phenomenal and gratifying.

put a sign in the window for $800.00 and park it at the curb it'll be gone within a week. Because of the condition it is in and has plenty need of body work.
