Question:
Is it the end for Big American Cars, Trucks, and SUV’s?

With gas prices at record highs and more and more American car manufactures discontinuing or slowing production of big vehicles, will we be forced to drive small fuel efficient cars? I personally don’t want to drive in a small European design car with a bumpy suspension. I prefer the nice smooth ride and large space of American cars. But I want to also save gas and be more environmental.

Of course not.

It may be the end of soccer moms and posers trying to justify 2.7x more car than they need because it's "safer." That'd be fine by me.

Who needs a Hummer? The US Army, that's who. It was just plain dumb to sell them to anyone else.

Yes, GM is already ending Hummer, Infinity, and Saturn. And for GM's new Volt, it sucks. 40 miles a charge is horrible. Wat we need is the electric cars from over seas because they have electric SUV's with the torch we need. The problem is that the DOT wont let the good ones come here because of rapid change to the economy. GM made an electric car 10 years ago then stopped making them due to their friends at Mobile 1 telling them 2 stop. America is run by rich oil lords that don't want to loose their money due 2 something cheap like electricity. The Smart car here in America was made by Mercedes and it goes slow and runs on gas, while the foreign ones are electric and don't cost as much.

So before long all the American manufactures will fall (Ford is at the brink of filing bankruptcy already) and we will be faced with better foreign cars that help our failing economy.

Now what is wrong with America?

Of course not. Yeah, people may not go running out to buy them like they have in the past, but if you pay attention to dealerships, they are doing major discounts and rebates on SUVs and trucks to encourage people to buy them. Most people won't care about the fact that they're putting a whole paycheck into the tank on a daily basis because they're able to say they bought a huge vehicle for $18,000. No, it doesn't make the gas prices go down, but they are making the vehicles themselves more affordable.

It is starting to look like the end for American car manufacturers, period, although they are trying by making some of their trucks hybrids.

GMC has both a hybrid Yukon and Sierra (both rather large vehicles) and in 2009 Chevy is going to have a hybrid Silverado!

You can't have it both ways. So far the best compromise is a hybrid. You will see more car and truck models available using a hybrid powerplant. The hybrid Camry, for instance gets better than 30 mpg and will hold it's own against the V6 model. Hybrid options are getting more affordable too. I too like to drive big, I miss my conversion van.

Its all a ploy to get the USA to bend to the nuts of the world who want to dictate to the masses how they should live their lives.

Hybrid SUVs and most of the cars are a joke.

They only get good mileage under 35 mph.

Most of America is built on freeways

You think the Euro value is being forced on you now, wait until its too late and you find out about the NAU

to these problems we need alternative fuels i hope one day the prices will drop i am a car buff but these prices are killing me its weird when car guys are bragging on how they modified there cars to get better fuel instead of how fast they are i myself has made my 03 F-150 get 22 miles per gallon actually on in and out of town driving and it is a V8 this is a dangerous time and right now we all need to be well informed on our decision on who we need leading our government because that's what got us where we are now and we all need to speak out at election time and we all need to vote because that is whats going to make a difference
