just wondering if i'm the only 1 that does it. too many people in la release the brake when the light turns green. but why not watch the light in the other direction, watch when it turns from yellow to red in the other direction (now it'll be green in your direction), so you can release your brake then and push the pedal to the medal when it immediately turns green in your direction?

Yes, I watch the other light. Don't be in a hurry to shoot out into the intersection when your light turns green. Proceed with caution when you are sure the coast is clear. There could be a jerk 'shooting the light' from the other direction that just turned red. Seen it many times.

I watch, but its usually when I'm driving a manual transmission car. That way I can shift into gear and be ready to go when the light turns.

You just have to remember to be careful someone's not running a red light in the other direction.

Yes I watch the other direction light, but I don't always go right away because we have a LOT of people who run red lights by us. It would suck to be T-boned at an intersection for jumping the light.

And, btw, it's pedal to the metal.

I used to do that where people didn't run red lights, but where I live now it would be suicide. Also there was an incident where I started my turn when the wrong light turned green.

I always count one two before I go on the green light.

every time, its the only way to make it anywhere on time when you live in NYC like me. be careful though sometimes you can get caught with a turn signal psych out and wind up in the middle of the intersection, good luck and keep on jumping the gun!

I always do that, but then again, I'm always the passenger.
